Victor Font has spoken negatively about Joan Laporta’s policy at Barcelona. Font lost the presidential elections in March 2021 at the Catalan club of Laporta and has already commented on the policy of the current president. Font accuses the current club management of working without a strategy and that there is no plan in their way of working. “There was no plan from the start, just improvisation.”

“We had a plan that would significantly reduce debt and account numbers,” the 49-year-old businessman is quoted as saying by marca† “With this plan and Messi’s willingness to continue, I’m sure we could have kept him for the club,” Font said of Messi’s departure, which is what fans blame Laporta for the most. After his appointment as president, Laporta promised that he would do everything he could to keep Messi at the club. However, this was not financially feasible and the Argentine superstar left for Paris Saint-Germain.

After Font lost the presidential election to Laporta, the businessman tried to help Laporta. “I made an appointment with him to discuss our plan. Laporta himself did not want to be there, so he sent his vice president. We talked for an hour and a half about our plan and the vice president said he could definitely use parts of our plan. To this day I still haven’t seen anything from it.”

Barcelona ended 2021 with a record debt of 481 million euros and Font indicates that this is also due to the policy of the club. “I don’t want to criticize the club management just to be able to criticize something. But there was just no plan from the start, just improvisation. To this day, government is ruled without a plan. We had a plan to cut salary costs, attract wealthy partners and keep Messi. And we were able to do this without increasing the club’s debt to EUR 481 million. †
