Peter Bosz thinks that PSV will bring in a potential top scorer of the Eredivisie with Eran Zahavi. The trainer of Bayer Leverkusen worked in Israel for a year with the 33-year-old striker, who is now about to come to Eindhoven. “If he is going to play all matches at PSV, I expect him to make at least 25”, Bosz opposes Football International.

PSV is in far-reaching negotiations with Zahavi, who is to be the successor to Sam Lammers who left for Atalanta. Bosz, who was in charge of Zahavi in the 2015/16 season at Maccabi Tel Aviv, is full of praise for the Israeli. Bosz worked with Zahavi at Maccabi Tel Aviv for six months in 2016. “It’s a winner, a leader and a goalkeeper,” said the practice master. “He’s not the best football player I’ve worked with. Nor the fastest, the biggest or physically the strongest. But he is a great goalkeeper. His functional technique is amazing. He acts extremely fast in the sixteen. He reminds me of Klaas Jan Huntelaar. So fast in finishing. When he shoots, it’s almost always on target. In that sense, he’s very dangerous.”

Zahavi’s statistics endorse the words of Bosz. The striker has scored 91 goals in 106 league games over the last four years on behalf of Guangzhou R&F. “I haven’t followed him in the last four years, so I don’t know exactly what his level is now,” says Bosz. “But he’s got crazy numbers everywhere. Not only with us with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, but also in China and with the national team. I have two internationals from Austria who played against Israel. I had told them to keep an eye on Zahavi. Yet he made a hat-trick, including two crazy goals. He’s a guarantee for goals.”

According to Bosz, Zahavi is in mortal danger because of his walking actions. “He is always on the move and has that feeling for where he has to stand. When a ball comes back from the bar, it always comes in front of his feet. If that happens once, it’s a coincidence. But if it happens to you every time, then it is quality. Or that an attack comes over the flank, he suddenly abandons at the cross and creates the space for himself to finish That’s hard to learn. He’s not fast, so it’s all about timing. When do I start that running action? I haven’t seen much improvement in that. “Great.”

Bosz thinks that Zahavi will also be successful in the Eredivisie. “He will score goals everywhere, if he gets the confidence to play. Other players will recognise his quality. If he is going to play all matches at PSV, I expect him to make at least 25,” says Bosz, who is curious how PSV coach Roger Schmidt will use his new striker. “The biggest difficulty will be: what is his position? He’s not a deep striker, he can’t play from the right and he’s not a real midfielder. I’m curious how he’s going to be used at PSV.”
