Eddy Snelders was arrested last weekend. The 64-year-old commentator and former professional footballer from Belgium is suspected of sexual offenses after accusations of exhibitionism by a neighbor. He spent one night in jail and is now free again. Play Sports and VRT, for which Snelders worked, have suspended him.

Snelders was arrested after accusations of exhibitionism. This means that a person experiences sexual pleasure by showing their genitals in public to other people.

In Snelders' case, a neighbor from his business office in Brasschaat allegedly went to the police. Snelders is said to have satisfied himself several times since 2022 and showed himself naked in front of the window of the office building. He was then confronted by the woman, but allegedly continued. In total, Snelders is said to have been guilty of this forty times.

Not only the woman who went to the police, but also her minor daughter is said to have witnessed his behavior during the summer. At the moments when the woman confronted Snelders about his behavior, he allegedly started touching her.

Last Saturday Snelders had to report to the police. After being interrogated, he had to spend a night in jail. He was then released on conditions.

In conversation with The last news Snelders addressed the suspicion. “I realize that what I did was wrong. It's not that I had a crush on that neighbor. It's a problem that I've struggled with all my life. I suppressed those feelings for a long time, now it's exploding in my face. When the police arrived, I knew what it was about. There was no point in denying it.”

He is now being treated by a psychiatrist. “Since the last facts more than a year ago, I realized that I needed help.” According to his lawyer, it is 'tendentious and untrue' that forty reports were made against Snelders.

One-time international Snelders played as a footballer for Royal Antwerp, Standard Liège and KV Kortrijk, among others. He also worked as an assistant national coach at Belgium. Nowadays he is mainly known as a football commentator.
