Atlético Madrid is considering releasing Mats Wieffer from Feyenoord. That reports Mundo Deportivo Thursday. The Madrilenians are struggling with personnel problems in midfield after the injury of Pablo Barrios, who has been out for three months with a torn meniscus. It is unclear whether the Capitals will make an attempt to sign the 24-year-old midfielder in January.

Wieffer should provide a solution in Madrid. The midfielder was accurate on behalf of Feyenoord in the lost home game with los Rojiblancosbut could still be active in the billion-dollar ball after the elimination of the Rotterdam team in the Champions League after the winter.

Wieffer's performance in the two matches between Feyenoord and Atléti would have satisfied the scouts, according to Mundo Deportivo. According to the Spanish medium, the midfielder himself would be interested in a move to the Spanish capital.

With the long absence of Barrios, Atléti only has Koke available in that position. Diego Simeone would like to have more options there. The question remains whether a possible transfer will happen during the winter break.

“He is not the only midfielder that the Madrid club keeps an eye on, but he is one of the most loved,” the newspaper writes. However, not only Atléti would be angling for Wieffer's services. For example, the newspaper also mentions FC Barcelona as a candidate to acquire Wieffer.

It is unknown whether Feyenoord will cooperate in the departure of its key player. According to Transfer market Wieffer represents a transfer value of fifteen million euros.

However, Rotterdam hopes to receive a multiple of that amount for its player, who is still in the port city until the summer of 2027.
