FC Groningen has to pay Frank Wormuth, who was fired earlier this season, more than four hundred thousand euros, as it became known on Friday. The arbitration committee of the KNVB has ruled that the contract of the German trainer has been canceled in violation of the law. Wormuth, who demanded more than a million euros, believes that he has suffered image damage due to Groningen’s actions. The arbitration committee partly ruled in his favor and believes that Wormuth is entitled to 405,833 euros.

Groningen decided in November to get rid of Wormuth after a series of poor results. The German trainer’s contract included a provision that the club would have to pay an annual salary of 280,000 euros as severance pay. However, after Groningen transferred it, Wormuth refunded the amount. The coach believed he was entitled to more and set his demand at one million euros. The committee did not agree.

However, Wormuth is largely in the right, writes Football International. During the verdict, the committee decided that the German trainer is entitled to half of the residual value of his contract. This amounts to an amount of more than four tons. Wormuth had signed with Groningen for three years, but was fired after only four months. The coach is of the opinion that he cannot be blamed for a mismatch.

Four weeks ago, during the first session, Wormuth himself spoke. “It’s a problem between Mark-Jan Fledderus and me, it was all along. There was a lot of space between him and me, but there was no space between him and Gudde. Nobody was behind me, they never listened to what I said “It’s unbelievable what I experienced in Groningen, I’ve never experienced anything like it. Suddenly I was gone. Then I handed it over to my agents and lawyers.”
