Olympique Lyon also denies any form of agreement with Newcastle United over the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes. The club of trainer Peter Bosz would, according to GOAL and transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano have accepted a €40 million offer for the Brazilian midfielder, which Olympique Lyon has labeled as nonsense on its own club channels.

“Olympique Lyon denies the false information spread by various media about an agreement between Newcastle and Olympique Lyon on the transfer of Brazilian international Bruno Guimaraes,” the club wrote in an official statement. “In this transfer window, when even the shadowiest rumor has been dismissed as reality, Olympique Lyon would like to remind you that only official information shared by the club should be taken seriously.”

Both Romano and L’Equipe reported earlier Wednesday that Guimares would undergo a medical examination once he was in Brazil. The defensive midfielder would have initially set his sights on a summer transfer: after all, he has enjoyed interest from Arsenal and Juventus for some time. Olympique Lyon would weigh up the proposal from England, as Guimarães is an important force for Bosz. The fact is that two years ago he was taken over for half, twenty million euros, from Athletico Paranaense from his homeland. The Brazilian club stipulated a resale percentage of twenty percent.

The wealthy Newcastle United due to the Saudi takeover has made Guimarães an attractive offer. L’Equipe writes that he can earn an amount of 440,000 euros per month in Northeast England. That is double what the midfielder, good for 71 duels for les gones in all competitions, takes off in Lyon. For Newcastle United, Guimares would be the third reinforcement in this transfer window. Defender Kieran Trippier was bought from Atlético Madrid for fifteen million euros and striker Chris Wood was bought from Burnley for thirty million euros.
