Mohamed Taabouni wants to leave Feyenoord on a rental basis this winter, it has been reported 1908.nl. The twenty-year-old attacking midfielder annex winger hopes to get more perspective on playing time elsewhere and has therefore submitted a request for rental to the club management. In South Rotterdam, Taabouni is still fixed until mid-2024.

Taabouni came across as somewhat surprising from AZ this summer, where the creative right leg had ended up on the sidelines and was out of contract. Arne Slot still knew Taabouni from his time in Alkmaar, while Feyenoord captain Orkun Kökçü is one of his closest friends. The Rotterdam club decided to take the gamble and gave him a two-year contract. So far, however, Taabouni has not really come into its own in De Kuip.

Remarkably enough, Taabouni regularly showed his class in the Slot team during the preparation. He was accurate in the exhibition games against RB Salzburg (1-2 win) and NAC Breda (6-1 win). After that, the former youth international of the Dutch barely played in the main force. Only during the Eredivisie match with RKC Waalwijk (1-2 win) did Taabouni play thirteen minutes of play. Furthermore, he often sat on the bench, or was made available for Feyenoord Under 21.

According to 1908.nl it is still unclear where Taabouni’s (temporary) future lies. At Feyenoord, the competition is fierce in its various positions. On the left wing, the Rotterdam club has Igor Paixão, Oussama Idrissi and Javairô Dilrosun in its ranks, while Taabouni has to tolerate Sebastian Szymanski and Ezequiel Bullaude at 10. He was not part of the selection against Fortuna Sittard, while youth player Noah Naujoks was allowed to fill in on his position for eleven minutes.
