FC Groningen still has no new trainer. The Pride of the North thought he had found the desired candidate with Dick Schreuder and was in far-reaching talks with the trainer of PEC Zwolle, but according to RTV East has the brother of Ajax coach Alfred Schreuder decided to the Blue Fingers to remain faithful.

Schreuder has spoken with Groningen, as PEC watcher Tijmen van Wissing knows RTV East during the day The East Stand report, but there will be no transfer. The trainer has thanked for the switch. “Schreuder could also be promoted with PEC Zwolle and to get in halfway in Groningen… He is traveling with PEC on a training camp and so I think he will stay”, Van Wissing said.

For a long time, Schreuder seemed to be Groningen’s new coach and thus bring about a clash with his brother, who is in charge at Ajax. Jan Joost van Gangelen already stated that he was ’90 percent sure’ that the deal was complete and that the two parties were as good as out. The fact that Schreuder still thanks for the position will not have gone down well with technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus. He has been looking for a new trainer for some time now.

Fledderus informed Frank Wormuth on the first day of the winter break that he no longer saw the point of cooperation and sent the German trainer out. Subsequently, lines were thrown at Dick Lukkien and Joseph Oosting, but those two trainers preferred to stay with FC Emmen and RKC Waalwijk respectively. Now that Schreuder has also canceled, Fledderus must continue his search. Groningen is currently fifteenth in the Eredivisie.
