Edgar Davids will immediately join the technical staff of the Dutch national team as assistant national coach, the KNVB announced. With this, Davids will take over this position from Henk Fraser until the upcoming World Cup, who was unable to combine the assistant national coach with his appointment at FC Utrecht.

National coach Louis van Gaal is pleased with the arrival of Davids. “After it was clear that Henk Fraser will focus entirely on FC Utrecht from next season, I asked Edgar if he wanted to become my second assistant at the the Dutch squad. Our paths have crossed regularly in the past and I am convinced that he will fill this role in an excellent way. The players can take full advantage of his experience as an international in, among other things, four international final tournaments.”

Davids, who himself played 74 international matches for the the Dutch, is more than proud. “I am not only proud but also very enthusiastic that I can continue my career as a trainer together with such a renowned trainer as Louis van Gaal and work with the absolute top of the Netherlands.” The technical leadership of the Dutch national team now consists of national coach Louis van Gaal, first assistant Danny Blind, second assistant Edgar Davids and goalkeeper coach Frans Hoek.

Davids played as a footballer for big clubs such as Ajax, AC Milan, Juventus, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur. With Ajax he won the UEFA Cup, Champions League, UEFA Supercup and the World Cup for club teams. With the Dutch he was active at three European Championships and one World Cup. After his career he was a player/trainer of Barnet, assistant coach of the the Dutch Under 20, assistant coach of Telstar and trainer of Olhanese.
