Sven Botman lost on Friday evening in a dramatic match with Lille OSC against AS Monaco (1-2). After the painful defeat, the wanted center defender lashes out hard at his own supporters. Instead of supporting Lille, which is having a terrible season as the reigning champions, the hard core at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy decided to turn against his own club. “Then stay home!”, Botman barks afterwards for the camera of Prime Video

A large part of the box of Lille’s most fanatical supporters remained empty. Those who did come to the top match against Monaco played a rather bizarre play in the stands, with the message: “We are on holiday, just like you.” Dressed in beach clothes, the fans played among other things with a volleyball. Others pretended to be sunbathing.

Lille played one of its worst games of the season, being led to the slaughter by two goals from Aurélien Tchouaméni. “The fans can say what they want,” Botman said. “Come to the game to be a fan, otherwise you will stay at home. You can have your opinion, but from the start they support the opponents…”

The atmosphere in the Stade Pierre-Mauroy has been negative for weeks due to Lille’s abysmal performance. Jocelyn Gourvennec, the trainer of the current number ten in Ligue 1, had already made an appeal to supporters at the press conference this week. “We are aware that we have missed the boat this season, but we all have a desire to get out of it,” said Gourvennec. “We hope the public will support our effort to show our true nature. Only together can we find an answer.”
