Ryan Gravenberch is entering important months at Bayern Munich. The midfielder, who passed through last summer the record master was snatched from Ajax, must impress Thomas Tuchel to secure a future in the south of Germany. German media meanwhile already fear a ‘Renato Sanches scenario’.

The Portuguese midfielder was also once welcomed to Bayern with much fanfare, but remained the eternal talent and never really broke through in the Allianz Arena. “He also rarely showed his qualities in the shirt of Bayern, despite his enormous talent,” Kerry Hau told the NOS in memory. Hau is a journalist on behalf Sports1 and closely follows Bayern in that capacity. “Gravenberch must be careful not to become the second Sanches.”

The twenty-year-old midfielder has to show it under Tuchel. Julian Nagelsmann, the former Bayern coach who was recently sacked, reportedly did not get on well with Gravenberch. “They just didn’t understand each other,” Hau explains. “Gravenberch had counted on more playing time, but he was also unable to distinguish himself in the minutes he got. He showed weaknesses, especially when he lost the ball.”

Time is running out for Gravenberch, who must not only take into account the competitors who are already playing at Bayern. Germany’s record champion has already strengthened itself for next season and that can be bad news for the former Ajax player. “Competition in midfield is already fierce, but Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig will be added this summer. Gravenberch really has to show it now and not bury his head in the sand.”
