Karim Benzema scored 27 goals last season to take the top goalscorer title in LaLiga. The French attacker of Real Madrid hopes to be able to extend that title next season, but he has a formidable competitor with Robert Lewandowski. The Polish top scorer, good for 35 goals in the Bundesliga last season, traded Bayern Munich for Barcelona. In partnership with Unibet, Voetbalzone looks at the biggest contenders for first place in the top scorer standings in the Spanish league.

Lewandowski finally got his dream transfer to Barcelona. Bayern did not want to let the 33-year-old striker from Poland leave, but after long negotiations, all parties involved reached an agreement on a transfer fee of 45 million euros plus 5 million euros in bonuses. Barcelona had already personally agreed with Lewandowski for some time, who signed for no less than three seasons with his new club. The man of 344 goals in 375 appearances for Bayern wants nothing more than to shine in the Camp Nou and therefore turned down other superpowers.

Benzema can look back on one of the most successful seasons of his career. With 27 goals, the now 34-year-old attacker had a large share in Real’s 35th national title in club history. In addition, the Frenchman also shone in the Champions League with no fewer than fifteen hits, making the billion-dollar ball once again a prey for The Royal. For the highly experienced Benzema, the challenge now awaits to keep Lewandowski behind in the battle for the top goalscorer title in LaLiga next season.

Alongside Lewandowski, Álvaro Morata makes his entrance into LaLiga, although it will not be the first time for the 29-year-old attacker that he will be admired on the Spanish fields. Juventus refused this summer after a rental period of two seasons to lift the purchase option of 35 million euros, as a result of which Morata starts the new season at Atlético Madrid. The striker, who had already been loaned out to Chelsea, joined in his first period los Colchoneros to 22 goals in 61 matches. Morata left Juventus with 59 goals in 185 appearances.
