Lionel Messi will not renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain for the time being. The 35-year-old Argentinian is first focusing on the World Cup in Qatar and does not intend to make a decision about signing a possible new contract until the end of December at the earliest.

PSG recently indicated that they want to extend Messi’s current contract, which expires in 2023, for at least another year. When he moved from Barcelona to Paris last year, he could sign a three-year contract or a two-year deal with an option for another season. It ended up being the last.

Messi has indicated that he will at least run out of his contract with PSG, but the 162-time Argentina international is expected to receive multiple offers next year, including from Major League Soccer clubs, while Barcelona also still dreams of a return when the club is in a better financial position.

However, Messi wants to focus on a good start to the season with PSG and then he will probably go in Qatar for his last chance to win the world title with Argentina. In his first season in Paris, Messi did not go further than 11 goals in 34 official matches. As a principal, however, he was important with fifteen assists.
