The match between Olympique Lyon and Olympique Marseille in the Ligue 1 has been suspended on Sunday evening. In the fourth minute, Dimitri Payet wanted to take a corner, but got a full bottle of water thrown to his head. He then lay in pain on the grass. Referee Ruddy Buquet decided to stop the match.
Before Payet wanted to take the corner, all kinds of objects were thrown his way. The arbiter warned him to wait for a while, after which Payet still scored for the corner. He was then hit by the water bottle and the match was stopped. Players and staff from both clubs went inside.
It is the second time in a short time that Payet has been sought out by supporters of an opponent. In August, a supporter of OGC Nice attacked the midfielder. In three of the seven away games Olympique Marseille played this season, at least one player was hit by objects from the crowd.
