Arsenal have made an informal phone call to Diego Costa’s entourage, Brazil’s branch has reported GOAL. The usually well-informed medium emphasizes that for the time being it is only about information about the availability of the 33-year-old striker, who had his contract with Atlético Mineiro terminated after six months.

Diego Costa fell completely out of favor with Atlético Madrid just over a year ago and tore his contract on January 1, 2021 in agreement with the Spaniards. After that, the center striker remained without a club for six months, before signing with Atlético Mineiro in August. In his native Brazil, the former Spain international was mostly a starting player, scoring five goals in 19 official appearances. It is striking that Diego Costa only played one full game: he was also taken off prematurely or brought in as a substitute.

The past six months have been a true price battle for Diego Costa: Atlético Mineiro took the league title in the Série A and closed the calendar year with a win of the Copa do Brasil. In the double final against Athletico Paranaense, Diego Costa only came into action for twelve minutes. The striker announced on Instagram on Sunday that his adventure at Atlético Mineiro is already over.

At the request of Diego Costa, his contract was dissolved, because the 24-time Spanish international could not settle in Belo Horizonte. “At the end of the season, he came to us to express his wish to leave,” director Rodrigo Caetano said. GOAL “The reasons given were adaptation, personal problems… Fortunately he stayed with us until the end. He was a very important player for us.”

Diego Costa is currently on holiday in Spain and is considering his future. Arsenal therefore threw out a line, but has not made any concrete offer for the time being. The Londoners are mainly concerned with Dusan Vlahovic, who has to be soaked at Fiorentina. According to various media, the transfer fee is not a problem for the gunners, but Vlahovic doesn’t seem to have much appetite for an adventure at Arsenal. Coming back to Diego Costa: the attacker already turned down an offer from Cádiz. The small Spanish club is looking for a striker and previously saw Luuk de Jong cancel for that.

If Arsenal still go through for Diego Costa, the Londoners will bring in a striker who previously made a big impression in the Premier League. The target man was the attacking leader at Chelsea between 2014 and 2017, scoring 52 goals in 89 competition matches. He also added a pretty impressive 18 assists.
