Tonny Vilhena is going to work in LaLiga. The midfielder makes a transfer from FK Krasnodar to Espanyol, reports Football International-journalist Martijn Krabbendam on Twitter. Vilhena was also recently associated with a return to Feyenoord, which is looking for reinforcements for the diaphragm, but now opts for an adventure in Spain.

Russian media already reported last weekend that the transfer from Vilhena to Espanyol would be completed this week. The club from Barcelona already had several talks with the midfielder in the spring of 2016 about a multi-year contract. At that time, Vilhena had an expiring contract with Feyenoord and appeared to be leaving on a free transfer. In the end, the midfielder signed up until the summer of 2018 in De Kuip, only to sign a contract extension until mid-2020 less than a year later.

Vilhena eventually went from Feyenoord to FK Krasnodar two years ago for nine million euros and then signed a contract until mid-2024. With Krasnodar he made the agreement to leave after two years, but the number ten of last season in the Russian league did not cooperate last summer. During the current winter transfer window, FK has given Krasnodar the green light and Vilhena still gets the chance to make the step to the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat more than five years later.

Espanyol returned to LaLiga last summer after spending a season in the second tier. The team of coach Vicente Moreno is currently in eleventh place.
