Brentford is in talks with Christian Eriksen about a return to the Premier League, it reports The Athletic. The current number fourteen of the Premier League is said to have offered the 29-year-old midfielder a six-month contract with an option to extend for another year. The Dane is awaiting a new employer after his contract with Internazionale was recently terminated with immediate effect due to an installed defibrillator.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest last summer during the European Championship match with Finland (0-1 loss). During his months of rehabilitation, a defibrillator was fitted. However, it is banned from playing with these in Serie A, leading Inter to tear the Danish midfielder’s contract last month. The Times previously reported that Eriksen’s preference is for a return to England and according to The Athletic he currently has an offer from Brentford in his pocket.

Eriksen can join sign for six months with an option for another year. Eriksen previously played for Tottenham Hotspur between 2013 and 2020, making over 300 appearances for the North London side. Spursmanager Antonio Conte recently said the door is always open for Eriksen at Tottenham as he reflected on the tragic incident in the European Championship match against Finland.

“We are talking about a very important player, but above all a great person, and what happened last summer was not good for the people he works with and the people who know him,” said Conte. “I was scared at the time, to see him play again now is great news. I think the door is always open for Christian Eriksen,” the Italian manager referred to a possible reunion and return to Tottenham.

A return to the Premier League with Brenford now seems more likely. The midfielder also recently said that he has set a clear goal for himself. “I want to play at the World Cup in Qatar,” the 109-time international of Denmark said in an interview at DR1. “I want to play soccer. It’s a goal, a dream. We’ll have to wait and see if I’m called up. But my dream is to return. I’m sure it’s possible, because I don’t feel any different. Physically I am in top shape. Until the World Cup I want to play football and prove that I am at the same level as before.”
