Internazionale plans to offer Samir Handanovic a contract extension, it knows la Gazzetta dello Sport. The 37-year-old goalkeeper has i Nerazzurri on an expiring contract, but could extend his current contract by one year despite the imminent arrival of André Onana. At the end of the season, Onana will transfer from Ajax to the current leader of Serie A on a free transfer.

It is not yet a foregone conclusion that Onana will become Inter’s first goalkeeper next season. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport he will have to compete next season with Handanovic, who this season is first choice under the bar under trainer Simone Inzaghi. The Italian sports newspaper reports that Inter will make an offer to the Slovenian closing post in the short term to extend his contract by one season.

Inter are hoping Handanovic will extend his expiring contract in the coming weeks so that he can help Onana next season during his first season with the club. The goalkeeper has already made 28 appearances this season and was important on Tuesday evening with some saves during the 0-0 draw against Atalanta. In the past nine league matches, Handanovic only had to concede three goals.

Inter has not yet announced the arrival of Onana, but various Italian media reported at the beginning of January that the goalkeeper passed his medical examination in Milan. Onana would have signed a five-year contract, which will take effect from the summer. The Ajax goalkeeper is currently in his native country for participation in the Africa Cup, where he won his first two group matches with Cameroon.
