Chelsea is in talks with Sevilla about Jules Koundé, journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday afternoon. The 22-year-old defender is the prime target for reinforcing the garrison at the center of the defense in West London. According to Romano, Koundé sees a switch to Chelsea and it is up to the clubs to reach an agreement.

Koundé, who has a transfer fee of eighty million euros in his contract, is also coveted by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United. In advance, Tottenham seems to have little chance, because Koundé has his sights set on Champions League football. With Chelsea and Manchester United he could play in the billion-dollar ball next season, but Tottenham only qualified for the play-off round of the Conference League.

Koundé, who played with France in the group match against Portugal (2-2) during the European Championship, has been playing for Sevilla since 2019. He came over from Girondins Bordeaux for a fee of 25 million euros and has since played 64 league games for Sevilla, winning the Europa League in 2020. In that season, he was also a member of the UEFA Team of the Tournament. His contract with Sevilla runs for another three years.

In an interview in May, shortly before the European Championship, Koundé said that he will most likely make a transfer. “As for my future, it seems certain that I will go to a new club in the summer,” said the stopper. “But nothing is certain yet. I haven’t made a decision yet. My goal is to play for a big club, continue to develop myself and win trophies. It is true that I may transfer, but that is not important now. “
