Burnley officially secured the title in the Championship on Tuesday evening. The team of manager Vincent Kompany was 0-1 too strong for arch-rival Blackburn Rovers thanks to a hit by former PEC Zwolle attacker. Promotion had been a fact for some time the Clarets, but after Tuesday’s victory, closest pursuer Sheffield United can no longer catch up with Kompany’s team. Burnley are virtually untouchable this season. In 44 matches, it lost three times to date. Number eight Blackburn is level with number six Sunderland with 65 points, making participation in the promotion play-offs still a realistic option.

Particularities
In the first half, Burnley was not yet able to make the difference at Ewood Park. Ashley Barnes, for example, unsuccessfully claimed a penalty kick and it came off well when Joe Rankin-Costello on the other side headed just wide. The pace of the game picked up as the second half progressed, leading to the opening goal in minute 66. Benson was played on the edge of the box, created some space for himself and found the far corner with a devastating swipe: 0-1. Deep in injury time, the Belgian could even have made his second of the evening, were it not for the crossbar getting in the way this time. However, victory for Burnley was no longer in danger.
