Paris Saint-Germain has recovered somewhat from the painful elimination in the eighth final of the Champions League against Real Madrid. The leader in Ligue 1, now with twenty victories in competition, had no trouble at all with Girondins Bordeaux on Sunday in its own Parc des Princes: 3-0. Before and during the home game, Lionel Messi and Neymar were treated to booing and whistles by angry and disappointed PSG fans. Kylian Mbappé, on the other hand, was welcomed by the supporters of the home club.
The whistle concerts from the stands probably have to do with Wednesday’s 3-1 defeat against Real, which means that PSG will not win the billion-dollar ball this season. Nevertheless, the list leader from Paris had an easy afternoon on his own field. In the 24th minute, Georginio Wijnaldum put the alert Mbappé in front of goalkeeper Gaëtan Poussin with a smart pass from just outside the penalty area. Via the hand of the closing post, the striker’s shot flew into the goal: 1-0. Mbappe was visibly relieved with the opening goal for PSG halfway through the first half.

PSG only doubled their lead after the break. Messi, who appeared in the penalty area, served Neymar, who took care of the 2-0 from close range. Neither Messi nor Neymar showed much emotion after the goal. Despite the goal, the supporters again came up with booing. After an hour of play, all the tension had disappeared in the Parc des Princes. After a smooth attack, with roles for Messi, Neymar and Mbappe, the ball eventually ended up with Leandro Paredes. The midfielder eventually shot the ball into the rebound and beautifully into the roof of the goal: 3-0. PSG booked a very easy win and are one step closer to the French title. However, the victory could not allay fans’ chagrin over the Champions League debacle. There were even visitors who left earlier, which was clearly visible in the various empty spaces in the stadium.
