Borussia Mönchengladbach is not prepared to sell Yann Sommer this winter, the club says. Bayern Munich is diligently looking for a replacement for the injured Manuel Neuer and has targeted the experienced Swiss. The South German Zeitung knows that Sommer has requested a transfer from his employer the fohlen not to cooperate with this.

Bayern was saddled with an acute problem under the bar due to the serious injury of Manuel Neuer, who broke his leg while skiing just after returning home from the World Cup. The 36-year-old goalie, who has been the first choice since 2011, is not expected to return this season. The Record Master has ended up at Sommer in his search for a new first goalkeeper.

Borussia Mönchengladbach, however, takes a hard line. “We have told Bayern Munich that we will not sell Yann Sommer,” sporting director Roland Virkus told the Rheinische Post. According to Sports1 an initial offer of five million euros has been swept aside by Mönchengladbach, which is said to have put a price tag of eight million euros around Sommer’s neck. Montpellier HSC goalkeeper Jonas Omlin has to absorb Sommer’s departure from BORUSSIA-PARK, if a subsequent offer from Bayern is still sufficient.

Sommer has only been with Gladbach for half a year and is already at a respectable age at 34. For Bayern, paying a sum of eight million euros will therefore feel like a bitter pill. Nevertheless, Bayern does not seem to want to give up on the arrival of the eighty-time Swiss international: the reigning national champion simply wants a goalkeeper who has proven himself at the top level and can be deployed immediately. Sommer has been under the bar at Gladbach for eight and a half years and has played several final tournaments with Switzerland, including the World Cup in Qatar recently.

Other options were also considered internally at Bayern. For example, there is the possibility of immediately bringing back Alexander Nübel, who has been loaned to AS Monaco since the summer of 2021. Bayern could also have expressed confidence in second goalkeeper Sven Ulreich, who has already replaced Neuer several times this season. The name of Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, who excelled at the World Cup with Croatia, was also mentioned in the corridors.
