Barcelona is seriously monitoring Paul Pogba’s contract situation at Manchester United, assures Sport. Due to the financial situation, the Catalans are currently limited to only transfer-free acquisitions and the 28-year-old midfielder is one of the dream candidates for this. “Pogba is a serious target next year,” writes Toni Juanmartí on behalf of the sports newspaper.

At Barcelona they realize that a transfer-free status by no means means that a transfer will be ‘free’. The Spanish superpower fears that Mino Raiola will hold an auction for Pogba. Barca will not and cannot participate in that. Given the favorable tax conditions for top footballers in Italy, Juventus, which is also regularly linked to Pogba, may have an advantage. Only if Pogba is willing to make “a significant financial effort” will a transfer to Barcelona become possible.

So everything depends on the wishes of the French international. Mathias Pogba, Paul’s brother, said a few years ago that his younger brother dreams of playing for Barcelona one day. That could speak in favor of the Catalans, but Pogba has also been explicitly linked to Real Madrid in Spain in recent times. That while there are strong noises in France about the interest of Paris Saint-Germain, which gives Barcelona considerable competition.

Fabrizio Romano said this week in his own Here We Go Podcast Pogba is still not convinced to extend his contract with Manchester United. “Mino Raiola was the first to reply: ‘We need to schedule a meeting with United and then see what happens’,” Romano said. “So it wasn’t ‘He wants to go back to Juventus’, or any other club. I think Raiola is being fair on this point. Nothing has been agreed yet, but the truth is that Pogba loves Manchester United. He loves Manchester United. the life, the atmosphere and how the club has met Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo.”
