The KNVB wants to suspend defender Mike te Wierik for two matches, plus one conditionally, after his red card from last Wednesday in the duel with Vitesse. FC Groningen announced on its website on Thursday afternoon that it did not agree with the settlement proposal and will therefore appeal to the disciplinary committee.

Te Wierik received a red card from referee Allard Lindhout on Wednesday evening after a tackle on the ankle of Loïs Openda. The arbiter initially missed the violation, but looked at the images on the advice of the VAR, after which the FC Groninger defender was still pushed under the nose.

FC Groningen and Te Wierik do not agree with the red print and therefore also do not agree with the settlement proposal of three matches, one of which is conditional. The case will be brought before the disciplinary committee in Zeist on Thursday evening, where the 29-year-old defender may also make his plea. If Te Wierik is acquitted, then trainer Danny Buijs can call on him next Saturday during the competition match with Ajax.

Daniël van Kaam will in any case miss the match against the national champion. The midfielder received a red card for hands against Vitesse. FC Groningen has accepted the settlement proposal of one match for him. The duel between FC Groningen and Vitesse (0-1) was one to remember. The Pride of the North had to continue with nine men before half-time. The duel in the Euroborg was then stopped after a pelt from Vitesse keeper Markus Schubert with a full cup of beer. In addition, four streakers also entered the field during the game.
