Barcelona has tried in vain to release Max Aarons from Norwich City, according to reports The Athletic and Sky Sports. David Ornstein, journalist of the former medium, writes on Twitter that the Catalans saw two offers refused by the Canaries. It is suggested that Barcelona is now shifting attention to Ajax defender Sergiño Dest.

Ornstein claims that one of the two offers from Barcelona amounted to 22 million euros, but Norwich City requires a higher amount for the contract of twenty years right back, still running until mid-2024. The report of the journalist of The Athletic differs from that of Sky Sportsbecause the English sports channel states that Barcelona wanted to take over Aarons on a rental basis. As there was no option to buy in the lease, Norwich City did not agree.

Both The Athletic as Sky Sports reports that Aarons already had a personal agreement with Barcelona that, according to ESPN may see Nélson Semedo leave for the Premier League this weekend. However, after the failed negotiations with Norwich City, the Catalans have decided to move on and focus on ‘second choice’ Dest. Mundo Deportivo knew last week that Barcelona would also like to rent the American international from Ajax, with an option to buy. It is unclear whether Ajax is open to this, because according to various reports the Amsterdammers are aiming for a transfer fee of 20 to 25 million euros.

Dest’s name is also explicitly linked to Bayern Munich. Football International and The Telegraph were able to report that Ajax made an initial offer of EUR 15 million from der Rekordmeister had referred to the trash can. Oliver Kahn, a board member at Bayern, talked to Schalke 04 (8-0 victory) Friday after the game. ZDF still on the plain over Dest. “Dest”? No, I can’t confirm that.” Sky Sports states that Bayern is also in the market for Aarons, as is Paris Saint-Germain.
