AS Monaco recorded an important victory over OGC Nice on Wednesday evening. In its own Stade Louis II, Monaco was 1-0 too strong, pushing Nice from fifth place in Ligue 1. That position entitles you to participate in the play-off round of the Conference League, while the number six next to European football grabs. Nice can still win the Coupe de France and thus qualify for the Europa League.

All Dutchmen present started on the bench: Myron Boadu at Monaco and Justin Kluivert, Pablo Rosario and Calvin Stengs at Nice. In the second half, Boadu (minute 79), Kluivert (minute 64) and Rosario (minute 65) did make their appearance. In the first half, Monaco had the upper hand, although the number of great opportunities was limited. Seven minutes before half time, Wissam Ben Yedder shot into the short corner at the legs of keeper Walter Benítez.

In the stoppage time of the second half, Monaco opened the scoring. The goal was introduced by Ben Yedder, who served Vanderson on the right wing. Vanderson’s pass was not cleared well by keeper Walter Benítez, creating an unmissable shooting opportunity for Aleksandr Golovin from close range: 1-0. In the second half, a bounce from Ben Yedder landed on the post, preventing Monaco from doubling the margin. However, the club recorded its fifth league win in a row.
