André Onana may still leave Ajax on the final day of the transfer market. The Telegraph reports on Tuesday afternoon that Villarreal and Barcelona have inquired about the keeper. Villarreal has even reported in Amsterdam. Earlier in the day, Onana’s agent informed the NOS know that the closing item will remain with Ajax at least until the winter.

Onana previously canceled a transfer to Olympique Lyon and, according to the newspaper, recently thanked OGC Nice for the interest. Onana may still leave now that Villarreal and Barcelona have inquired about his services. However, the Spanish clubs must first get rid of players before they can act. The 32-year-old goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo is the player at Villarreal who still has to leave before Onana can be brought in. Should the choice fall on Barcelona, the 25-year-old goalkeeper will return to the club where he played in the youth academy from 2010 to 2015.

The Telegraph writes that there is a fight behind the scenes to make a deal, but that time is running out. If it does not come to a transfer, Onana will remain at Ajax until the winter. The goalkeeper is currently serving a suspension after traces of banned substances were found in his body during a doping control. Ajax and the keeper successfully appealed against the one-year suspension. Onana can join Ajax’s group training again next Saturday. On November 6, he could make his comeback in the home game against Go Ahead Eagles.
