The agreement between Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur about the transfer of Steven Bergwijn has positive financial consequences for PSV. Journalist Rik Elfrink knows that PSV is entitled to a solidarity compensation of 3.75 percent of the total transfer fee, which according to Mike Verweij amounts to 32.5 million euros. In this way, the people of Eindhoven can look forward to an amount of approximately 1.2 million euros.

Fabrizio Romano and The Telegraph reported on Tuesday evening that the team from Amsterdam is one step closer to attracting Bergwijn. The paperwork has already been completed and the wing striker will undergo a medical on Wednesday, after which he will sign a five-year contract. According to Romano, Tottenham will receive 30 million euros for the Dutchman, while Verweij takes into account a total amount of 32.5 million euros.

PSV will have looked closely at the difficult negotiations between Ajax and Tottenham. Shortly after the announcement of the agreement, Elfrink reported that PSV is entitled to a solidarity compensation of 3.75%, as a result of which the Eindhoven residents will receive an amount of between 1.1 and 1.2 million euros. The fee is not to be confused with a training fee and a resale rate. In addition to the solidarity contribution, no extra money is left over from Bergwijn’s transfer.

With the transfer amount involved, Bergwijn becomes the most expensive player in the Eredivisie of all time. Ajax had already broadly agreed with the attacker for five weeks, but did not manage to get by with Tottenham Hotspur until Sunday evening. So it was a matter of waiting for both clubs to actually put the oral agreement on paper. Ajax previously thought it could reach an agreement on a transfer fee of 25 million euros, but Tottenham then wanted to get the most out of it. Bergwijn eventually has to make the switch to Ajax for a record amount of more than thirty million euros.
