Alfred Schreuder does not intend to let Perr Schuurs leave Ajax this summer. The head coach of the national champion has made this known in a personal conversation with the central defender. Schuurs cannot have a permanent place at Ajax, but nevertheless, according to Schreuder, there is sufficient perspective to continue the collaboration. The tree-long mandekker will remain in the Johan Cruijff ArenA for another three seasons.

“It is important for Perr that he starts to play more,” explains agent Wessel Weezenberg on Thursday in conversation with The Parool† “He also has the qualities for that and other clubs see that too. For example, clubs from England, the top of Germany, Italy and France are seriously interested.” Schuurs’s representative then puts forward an appointment with Overmars, who left in February as director of football affairs. “If he didn’t get enough time to play, a transfer was possible. However, both the trainer and the management are not convinced yet.”

Schuurs, who was taken over from Fortuna Sittard four years ago, managed to win a basic place at Ajax after a difficult initial period. However, he lost that place in the defense of the Amsterdam club at the beginning of last season to Jurriën Timber, who has since worked his way up to international level for the Dutch national team. Since then, Schuurs has mainly had to make do with substitutions at Ajax. Last season he made 22 appearances.

Despite the status of reserve player, Schreuder does not want to say goodbye to Schuurs prematurely, who, according to the General Newspaper has already explored some foreign options. Timber has been mentioned several times at Manchester United and Arsenal is still in the market for Lisandro Martínez. Ajax already has two offers from the gunners swept off the table, but that does not seem to mean that the interest has finally cooled down. Martínez would also be on Erik ten Hag’s list at Manchester United.
