Noussair Mazraoui is one hundred percent behind his choice for Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old right back saw former teammates Hakim Ziyech and Donny van de Beek struggle after their departure from Ajax, but he himself is not afraid of the great adventure in Germany. Mazraoui has thought carefully about the move to Bayern, as the Morocco international could also have chosen a club from the Premier League.

Mazraoui gets during a farewell interview with Ajax TV the question whether, given the situation of Ziyech and Van de Beek, he had doubts about leaving Ajax. “Yes and no”, replies Bayern’s summer signing. “Well, if I looked at which step I would make, but I was always convinced that I wanted to make this step. It also has a lot to do with which club you go to.” The Premier League was also an option for a long time. “I thought about whether I wanted to go to England, because guys like Hakim and Donny play there. Apparently the competition is just a bit tougher. But I’m neither Hakim nor Donny, because nobody can know in advance whether you’re going somewhere make,” said the former Ajax player.

Noussair Mazraoui will face Ryan Gravenberch again at Bayern Munich.

After signing the contract with Bayern, there was mainly relief at Mazraoui, who left Ajax behind on a free transfer. “I was happy that I could put it all behind me,” acknowledges the ambitious wing defender who can also play in midfield. “The insecure thing, I didn’t know what I was going to do and at which club. So I listed all the choices, which also entails something mentally. In the meantime I also wanted to give everything for Ajax and me there one hundred percent on focus. But after a game, for example, I thought again about what I wanted. That was tough.”

So the choice fell on Bayern, where Mazraoui will once again play together with Ryan Gravenberch. The two who left Ajax have built up a good relationship during their time together in Amsterdam. “It’s great that he is also going to Bayern,” Mazraoui judges the move from the midfielder to the German superpower. “We are going to experience something new together. We are both stepping out of our comfort zone, but we can just go to each other”, concludes the new right back of Bayern.
