Ajax lost a closed exhibition game against FC Utrecht on Wednesday afternoon. Erik ten Hag’s team lost 0-1 at De Toekomst sports park due to a goal from Moussa Sylla. The Ajax trainer chose to only let reserve players and players of the promise team play. Both clubs will not play in the Eredivisie next weekend due to international obligations.

In an even opening phase, Danilo missed a header opportunity and goalkeeper Charlie Setford was able to keep his goal clean in the face of a dangerous opportunity from the visitors. On the stroke of half-time, Utrecht still managed to break open the game, when Sylla scored the opening goal. The initial phase of the second company was for Ajax, without the Amsterdam team coming up with finished opportunities.

Utrecht’s urge to attack did not yield a hit either. Ajax was fortunate to have goalkeeper Setford, who kept Ajax going several times. The only seventeen-year-old Englishman was in the right place with a long shot and stopped a penalty from Simon Gustafson in the absolute final phase. Tommy St. Jago made his comeback at Utrecht after a long injury.

Ajax setup: Setford; Reign, Schuurs, Rensch, Baas (46. Salah-Eddine); Klaassen, Fitz-Jim (62. Hlynsson), Taylor; Rasmussen (62. Martha), Danilo (82. Musampa), Daramy (82. Banel)

FC Utrecht line-up: Oelschlägel; St. Jago, Janssen, Meissen, Zagre; Van Overeem, Van den Berg, Ramselaar; Gustafson, Sylla, Balk
