Henk Veerman officially makes the switch from sc Heerenveen to FC Utrecht, both clubs report through the official channels. The 30-year-old striker signs a contract that binds him to the club from the Domstad for two and a half seasons. With this, Veerman fulfills a promise he once made to a deceased friend, who was a supporter of Utrecht. As a result, the attacker has to give up on salary, which, however, did not appear to be an obstacle to the realization of the transfer.

“Interest in Henk has been dormant for a while,” says technical manager of sc Heerenveen Ferry de Haan. “Henk informed us that he would like to take this step. After we assured ourselves of the arrival of Sydney van Hooijdonk, we switched. We think this transfer is a good solution for all parties. We wish Henk every success in his further career .” According to The Telegraph the transfer fee for Veerman is a lot lower than his market value, which is one million euros (source: Transfermarkt). Heerenveen would agree to this because the club would like to reduce its own salary house.

According to the newspaper, Veerman himself is also adding water to the wine, to fulfill the wish of a deceased friend. The boy, who played in the youth of FC Volendam together with Veerman, took his own life in 2010 due to mental problems. “He was a big fan here,” Veerman says on the FC Utrecht club website. “He was regularly on the Bunnikside (the east side of the Galgenwaard, ed.). Then it is very nice that you can fulfill the promise you have made and hopefully play a role for FC Utrecht.”

“With Henk, we are adding an extra weapon to our selection”, technical director of Utrecht Jordy Zuidam finally responds to the arrival of his new target man. “It is also great that Henk has an incredible drive to serve our supporters and club. play. We have tried several times in the past to contract Henk and we have now succeeded on the third time. We are pleased that we have come to an agreement with Heerenveen and that we can now welcome him here in Stadion Galgenwaard.” Veerman was in his second stint at Heerenveen; between 2015 and 2018 he also played for the Frisians. He came to a total of 168 official matches, in which he managed to find the net 46 times.
