Feyenoord is praised after the resounding 7-1 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, but the analysts of ESPN at the same time are surprised at the weak performance of the Ukrainians. Marciano Vink even dares to say that Shakhtar did not study any images of Oussama Idrissi beforehand, who scored two goals. “You can see that in the goals,” says Vink.

Shakhtar had no chance in the return match in the round of 16 of the Europa League. Idrissi scored his goals in a characteristic way in minutes 49 and 60, dribbling in from the left and hitting the far corner. “You can see from this that they have not watched any images,” says Vink, while the images of the left winger’s second goal run. “When Idrissi gets the ball, you know he is right-footed, then as a defender you don’t step in like that… Look at that 26 (Yukhym Konoplya, ed.)! It’s a fantastic goal, but… ”

Feyenoord often has a harder time in their own competition than on Thursday at European level. “FC Groningen and FC Volendam took better defensive positions than Shakhtar tonight,” says Pierre van Hooijdonk. “It is also true that one can better estimate the strength of Feyenoord in the Dutch competition, so then it is not as open as tonight,” Vink adds. “I think they watched zero images, because Shakhtar really played into Feyenoord’s hands.”

Kenneth Perez especially praises Feyenoord’s performance. “Whatever is going on, seven goals in the Europa League is just a lot. That will also strengthen them towards Ajax, but… that is a completely different match!” Perez winks. Van Hooijdonk is also enthusiastic about the way Idrissi scored, twice with the inside of his foot. “I think it once again indicates that you always win with the inside foot of the power, certainly in the long term,” said the former striker, who almost always went for the inside foot himself.

“The power can give you a goal of the year for once, but in the end you can only become a top scorer if you are also able to score goals with your insides,” says Van Hooijdonk. “The big advantage that Idrissi has here by coming in and shooting with the inside: the ball path is from the outside in, away from the keeper. Although that doesn’t matter with his second goal, incredibly beautiful!” That last ball went in through the bottom of the crossbar.
