Santiago Giménez is a happy man after the 7-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. The Mexican himself provided the opening goal and thus set the tone for one of Feyenoord’s biggest victories ever in Europe. Gimenez concludes ESPNreporter Milan van Dongen not only to give an interview afterwards, but also to give all the Dutch he knows. At the last moment, however, he goes wrong.

Giménez opened the score in minute nine on Thursday by outwitting Anatoliy Trubin with a dry, low bang after a nice passing movement. After that, Feyenoord would make six more, but the Mexican certainly does not want to call Shakhtar a weak opponent. “It’s a very good team,” says Giménez. “But today (Thursday, ed.) We have shown people that we are ready for this competition.”

The center forward gave the starting shot to his team and he was well aware of that, he says. “A first goal like this gives the team confidence and motivation. Last week we started very slowly and now we were full on it, with high intensity. The team accelerated for ninety minutes,” said Giménez, who won five Europe after Thursday. League goals this season.

Until that moment, Giménez has answered all questions in ‘very good English’, according to Van Dongen. When Van Dongen asks how good his Dutch is, Giménez shares everything he has. “Goodbye. No. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten.” Then things go wrong. “So you know the result in Dutch?” Van Dongen asks. “7-0?”, Gimenez responds. “Ah, 7-1!”
