Matthijs de Ligt left the field injured on Saturday evening. The center defender had to stand during of the Classic after more than an hour forced to be replaced by Noussair Mazraoui because of, as it turns out, a groin injury. De Ligt went to the bench with a 0-2 lead for Bayern Munich and he saw from the sidelines how Borussia Dortmund completed the comeback: 2-2.

In the 62nd minute of play, De Ligt left the field on foot and was forced to take a seat on the reserve bench. He was not immediately treated, however. The defender is normally part of the the Dutch squad for the World Cup in Qatar, which kicks off on November 20. Louis van Gaal did not see him as a basic player in the past international period, as Virgil van Dijk, Jurriën Timber and Nathan Aké formed the center during the Nations League matches.

In front of ‘s camera viaplay De Ligt indicates that he does not yet know what his physical condition is. “How it’s going? Good question. Not perfect of course if you have to get out and end up losing points here. I actually grabbed my groin. In the first half I felt it after 25 minutes. Then I finally played until the 55th minute, when I noticed that I could no longer deliver the power I normally deliver.”

“The scan will show tomorrow whether I should be worried,” continues De Ligt. “I hope it’s nothing serious, because there’s a full schedule coming up. In addition, we are not already well in the center defenders, so extra caution is important now.”
