Denny Landzaat can still leave Willem II, so it knows Brabants Dagblad to be revealed on Sunday. The assistant coach was not allowed to leave Tilburg in the meantime, but now receives permission to move to Al-Taawon from Saudi Arabia together with head coach John van den Brom. The club had already announced Landzaat’s arrival on Saturday, much to the surprise of Willem II’s board.

Landzaat had informed general manager Martin van Geel of Al-Taawon’s interest, but the club itself had not yet contacted the management of the Tricolores† In addition, Willem II was reluctant to let Landzaat go more than a year before the expiry of his contract. The assistant coach, who acted as interim pope before Kevin Hofland was named as the new head coach, was reportedly outraged by his employer’s attitude. He immediately came up with a request to cooperate in the transfer to Saudi Arabia.

According to the Brabants Dagblad Willem II cooperated with Landzaat’s request because the announcement of Al-Taawon had confronted them with a fait accompli. An agreement has now been reached between all parties involved. As a replacement for Landzaat, Willem II has meanwhile recruited Reinier Robbemond. He was fired from De Graafschap last month because of the disappointing performance and was therefore available at short notice.

Robbemond had already been associated with Willem II as an assistant coach at an earlier stage, with Erwin van de Looi as his then boss. After the latter’s resignation, Robbemond temporarily took over. The returned coach started in March 2018 with a sensational 5-0 victory over PSV. In the past he also worked for PSV, AZ and TOP Oss. The new assistant coach has signed in Tilburg until the end of the season.
