Marseille had a disastrous general, because on Sunday, in its own Stade Vélodrome, it lost no less than 0-3 to the Olympique Lyon from trainer Peter Bosz. In the second half things went completely wrong against one of the biggest rivals in French football. This makes the battle for second place in Ligue 1 exciting again, because the lead over pursuers Stade Rennes and AS Monaco is only three points. However, there is no time to mourn for long, because Feyenoord will visit on Thursday. Marseille, at home without defeat this season in a European context, is working towards the return match in the Conference League without new injuries or suspensions.

Feyenoord showed a lot better this weekend. Trainer Arne Slot saw his team beat Fortuna Sittard 1-3, which means that third place in the Eredivisie is even more firmly in the hands of the Rotterdam team. Feyenoord is now unbeaten eight games in a row in all competitions, which should give the necessary confidence in the run-up to the squatter in Marseille on Thursday evening. What also gives confidence is the fact that the previous two away games in the Conference League resulted in victories. Partizan Belgrade was beaten 2-5 in March, while Slavia Prague was treated to a 1-3 defeat in the quarterfinals of the third European tournament a few weeks ago.

At Marseille, a lot will likely depend on Dimitri Payet on Thursday, who has scored three goals in the Conference League so far. However, the graceful attacker was unable to score in De Kuip. Club top scorer in the European tournament is Arek Milik, although the former Ajax player did not have a base place in the first game against Feyenoord. On the Feyenoord side, everyone will pay extra attention to Cyriel Dessers, the top scorer in the Conference League with ten goals. In the first leg, the Belgian striker managed to find the net twice. The last time Feyenoord took office in Marseille, in the spring of 2000, the Champions League drew 0-0. In De Kuip, the French were defeated by no less than 3-0 at the time.
