Owen Wijndal has quite stirred up tongues with a comment on Instagram. The left wing defender of AZ reacted to a photo of himself and Jurriën Timber on the account of the Ajax player. Brian Brobbey seized the moment to revive the rumors of a possible transfer. Wijndal has been on ‘a list’ of Ajax for some time, partly due to the imminent departure of Nicolás Tagliafico. Valentijn Driessen knows that the AZ defender really likes to come to Amsterdam.
Brobbey responded to Timber’s post with “soon?‘, accompanied by two eye emojis. Wijndal in turn responded with ‘you?’ and the same emoji. The chat between the Ajax player and the the Dutch international has caused quite a stir, as Wijndal’s name has been linked to Ajax for some time. In Alkmaar, however, they are not eager to let players go to the traditional top three in the Netherlands. Wijndal extended his contract for one year in March and is now fixed in the AFAS Stadium until mid-2024.

I think those two (Timber and Wijndal, ed.) would like to play together. It wouldn’t surprise me. Ajax is looking for a left back. I think Wijndal would really like it. Only Ajax is still in doubt a bit, that will have to do with the transfer fee.” That transfer fee has received a significant boost due to Wijndal’s contract extension. Clubs that are interested will have to buy out the two-year contract.

Driessen also reacted to the decision of mayor Femke Halsema not to hold the celebration of Ajax on the Museumplein. There are too few security guards available, so that Ajax will be honored on Wednesday evening in the event of a championship in the Johan Cruijff ArenA after the game against sc Heerenveen. “I think it is very wise and sensible to do the ceremony in the ArenA, you can keep a close eye on it there,” concludes Driessen. “If there aren’t enough security guards, you don’t go looking for that, do you? Certainly not in the evening. Have fun in the ArenA, visit Vitesse and then lock the door and go on holiday.”
