Kees van Wonderen is seriously in talks with sc Heerenveen, reports Football International† The trainer will leave Go Ahead Eagles at the end of the season and is the intended successor of the fired Johnny Jansen in Friesland. Ferry de Haan, technical director of Heerenveen, previously denied categorically that he was after Van Wonderen.

Already on January 5, the Leeuwarder Courant report of talks between Van Wonderen and Heerenveen. That was painful for the Frisian club at the time, because Jansen was still employed as head coach at that time. “We are not working on this,” De Haan responded fiercely at the time. “I don’t want to say anything more about it because it’s not playing.” Jansen was fired from Heerenveen on January 24 due to the disappointing results.

Ole Tobiasen is currently the interim trainer for the player group in Heerenveen. It is the intention that Van Wonderen will take over after the season. Jon Dahl Tomasson, who left Malmö FF on his own initiative in 2021 and was active as a striker for Heerenveen for three years, is also in the picture. Club icon Foppe de Haan previously also suggested Ruud van Nistelrooy, the current trainer of Jong PSV, as an option.

De Haan and Van Wonderen are therefore seriously talking and already know each other from their joint period as Feyenoord players. Between 1998 and 2002 they were both under contract in De Kuip. Together they won the national championship, the Johan Cruijff Scale (both in 1999) and the UEFA Cup (2002).
