Ruud van Nistelrooij believes that referee Daniele Orsato has blown his whistle too early on Thursday evening during the game between PSV and Sevilla. Four minutes of extra time were added to the game, in which a PSV supporter attacked the Sevilla keeper and PSV scored another goal. According to Van Nistelrooij, the Italian referee then indicated that he would add extra time to the injury time, but he did not sufficiently fulfill that promise.

“The second goal came in the 94th minute, and that was a bit late of course,” Van Nistelrooij says. ESPN back, before going into the four minutes of stoppage time that were added. “One time nine minutes are added, the other time ten, and then again two or four. I don’t understand what it’s based on…”

In the end, the referee decided to end the game in the 96th minute, after which he was attacked by a number of PSV players. Mauro Júnior was shown a red card. “The referee had indicated that there would be more time after the incident with the supporter,” explains Van Nistelrooij. “And then the whistle blows immediately. That’s why there was protest.”

All in all, the PSV coach was not dissatisfied with his team’s game. Many things went better in the second half than in the first, Van Nistelrooij acknowledges. “We were better on the ball. We were a bit different in the build-up, which put us a little higher on the field. Good 1-0, and then we also knew we would get chances. We gave little away. Of course we’ve done well now, when you win 2-0 at home against Sevilla. But you have to watch the away game. There are three goals too many.”
