Amourricho van Axel Dongen wants to succeed in Ajax’s main force. The eighteen-year-old winger guided Jong Ajax on Monday evening with one goal and two assists to a 2-6 win over NAC Breda. Early afterwards Football zonereporter Labib Bitchou explained his contract situation, after which Van Axel Dongen came up with a reassuring answer for Ajax fans: the captain of the U21 team wants to stay with Ajax despite his expiring contract.
The right leg, born in Almere, has been known as a top talent in Ajax’s youth academy for years. Van Axel Dongen even got the chance to make his debut in the main force of the team from Amsterdam under Erik ten Hag. So far he has played in three official matches in Ajax 1, in which he was good for one assist. Nevertheless, there has been unrest among some of Ajax’s supporters in recent months. Van Axel Dongen’s contract expires after this season, but he seems to want to stay in the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
“My goal is to succeed at Ajax anyway,” says Van Axel Dongen. “Ajax is of course the most beautiful club in the Netherlands and the best club to show you. Right now I’m just busy with myself and trying to keep fit. I just want to play as many matches as possible now, so I’m not super busy with that (his expiring contract, ed.), but of course I just want to stay at Ajax.” The team from Amsterdam will have to hurry with a possible contract extension. Van Axel Dongen will be out of contract in just over three months. In recent years he has appeared on the radar of several European top clubs.

NAC coach Hyballa was less pleased with the course of the evening afterwards. The 47-year-old German saw his team trail 0-5 after fifty minutes. In front of the camera Football zone Hyballa showed his displeasure. “Defensively it was totally bad, as in almost all games. Only this vanguard of Ajax is of course worthy of the Eredivisie. With these players (Francisco Conceição, Lorenzo Lucca and Van Axel Dongen, ed.) It is the best vanguard in this division. Only PEC Zwolle may still have the same level and we could defend that very badly tonight (Monday evening, ed.).
