PSV will have to do without away supporters in the next European away game. UEFA has decided that. The people of Eindhoven will be given this penalty as a result of the disturbances after the 1-0 lost away game at Arsenal last week. The club must also pay a fine of 40,000 euros.

The European Football Association’s website states that UEFA’s disciplinary body has decided to fine PSV and prohibit the club from selling tickets to its own fans for the next away match in a European context. It will most likely be the potentially crucial game in Norway against FK Bodø/Glimt on Thursday 3 November, but the club has yet to clarify this.

UEFA investigated four charges against PSV: throwing objects, setting off fireworks, causing destruction and causing problems in the stands. It was expected that a fine would be imposed for this. Not being allowed to bring fans to the next away game is, however, a hefty extra penalty that one might not have expected in the Philips Stadium. PSV must also contact Arsenal within thirty days about the damage caused and compensation.

On Thursday evening, PSV will meet the superpower from London again, but on their own field. If the formation of trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij achieves a better result than Bodø/Glimt does against FC Zurich, then a ticket for the intermediate round of the Europa League has already been received. If the Norwegians do the same as PSV or even get a better result, the decision will be made in the north of Norway in seven days. In that potentially crucial duel, the people of Eindhoven will probably have to manage without their own supporters.
