Arjen Robben came in on Thursday during the match between FC Groningen and AZ (0-0) as a substitute, after he had been of great value as a basic player four days earlier with two assists against FC Emmen. The 37-year-old wing attacker off for the camera ESPN his dissatisfaction with the schedule, in which he believes that the interests of the players are not taken into account.

“We now play a midweek game at the end of the season. We have to play again on Sunday and on Wednesday we play in the play-offs. If we win it, we have to play again on Saturday,” says Robben. FC Groningen concludes the regular competition next Sunday with an away match against PEC Zwolle As it looks now, the team of coach Danny Buijs will visit FC Utrecht three days later in the semi-finals of the play-offs for European football.

“It is a bit typical that other interests outweigh the interests of the players. I think it is a pity that there is little rest between the matches. I think there could have been a day here and there. Now it all goes very quickly in succession. Maybe we should start saving boys for that Wednesday on Sunday. That is also not convenient for me ”, the wing attacker concludes. Robben calls it ‘positive’ that he was there against AZ, after he played a total of seven minutes as a substitute.

“But you don’t normally do that. After FC Emmen I really had to recover for two days and this time I was not as fresh as last Sunday. I am building up and hope to make more minutes. It is now important for us to start fresh in the play-offs ”, Robben concludes. For the time being, he has six games to his name this season, in which he provided two assists.
