After the 0-2 defeat to Manchester City, there is again much speculation about the future of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of Manchester United. The Daily Mail writes that there is a lot of dissatisfaction with the Norwegian within the selection of the Red Devils. One of the reasons for this is the treatment of Donny van de Beek, who is not understood by the dressing room.

Van de Beek was serenaded at Old Trafford as he prepared for his 10-minute substitute against Manchester City last Saturday. The midfielder has only played five games this season, two of which as a starting player. In his first season he came to 36 games and 15 starting positions. The Manchester United players would not understand why Van de Beek has so few opportunities from Solskjaer since he was taken over from Ajax for 39 million euros more than a year ago.

At the same time, according to the Daily Mail feeling within the squad that Solskjaer will stick with certain players at all costs, even if they don’t perform as they should. Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are cited as examples, while Solskjaer ignores Jesse Lingard and Jadon Sancho in addition to Van de Beek. Several players – among whom Bruno Fernandes is specifically mentioned – would believe that Solskjaer is operating at Manchester United without a clear plan.

Cristiano Ronaldo would even be ‘shocked’ by the current standard at Manchester United. In his eyes, that would have fallen enormously compared to twelve years ago, when he left England behind for Real Madrid. Despite this, it is currently reported in England that Solskjaer will at least still be in charge during the next game, when Manchester United visit Watford after the international break. The club’s management would prefer not to change managers until the summer and therefore reportedly kept Solskjaer in the saddle after the embarrassing 0-5 defeat to Liverpool.
