In the final days of the transfer window, Lazio did everything they could to take over Filip Kostic from Eintracht Frankfurt. However, the German club devised a trick to make the deal for the attacking midfielder fail, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio revealed. The Frankfurt leadership deliberately gave Lazio the wrong email address so that they could tell Kostic that no official offer had ever come in from Rome.

However, Frankfurt’s curious behavior soon leaked out to Kostic’s agent, Fali Ramadani. The midfielder’s advocate sent a screenshot of the email to his client. The action by the Frankfurt leadership angered Kostic, who refused to appear on the training field and was missing on Saturday in the league match against Arminia Bielefeld.

Frankfurt then jumped into action and resolutely brushed aside a second offer from Lazio, even though the offer was sent to the correct email address this time. Igli Tare, technical director of Lazio, stated: BILD that the whole incident created tension for all parties involved. Kostic is still under contract with Frankfurt until 2023, although it is highly questionable whether he will also live out his contract with the Bundesliga club.

Kostic, active for FC Groningen between 2012 and 2014, was initially taken over by Frankfurt on a rental basis from Hamburger SV in 2018. A year later, the 28-year-old midfielder’s final transfer followed. In the past three years, Kostic made 129 appearances in all competitions. He also played for VfB Stuttgart for some time in Germany.
