Borussia Dortmund started the new season in the Bundesliga very well on Saturday evening. Coach Lucien Favre’s squad settled 3-0 with Borussia Mönchengladbach. Only seventeen-year-old Giovanni Reyna played a leading role by scoring the first goal and then a penalty.

The match between Dortmund and Mönchengladbach was the same in the first match. Erling Braut Haaland tried it in the opening stages, but was blocked by a Gladbach defender. The same fate befell Jonas Hofmann across the field. Gladbach’s striker took a ball into a dangerous position within the sixteen, but his shot was just blocked by Dortmund’s rearguard.

In the 35th minute Dortmund got the lead. Giovanni Reyna unintentionally brought the ball to Jude Bellingham in the sixteen, who stabbed Reyna directly away on the right side of the penalty area. Reyna then found the far corner out of the turn with a low shot: 1-0. Jadon Sancho then headed over on behalf of Dortmund from close range, while keeper Roman Burki saved on a shot from Gladbach player Stefan Lainer.

Six minutes after the break, goalkeeper Reyna was again of great value to Dortmund. The American rushed away from Gladbach’s defence and was stopped within sixteen with a tackle on his feet. Haaland finished the penalty cold-bloodedly: 2-0. The Norwegian striker was also responsible for Dortmund’s third goal a quarter of an hour before time. Haaland owed that to Sancho, who controlled him after a sprint with the ball on his foot over sixty metres: 3-0.
