Lennart Thy will start his second period as a player for PEC Zwolle next season. The German returns to the club for which he also played for a season and a half from the beginning of 2019. Thy comes over from Sparta Rotterdam, where he was able to leave on a free transfer. The striker will sign a contract in Overijssel until mid-2025, provided he passes the medical examination.

The thirty-year-old attack leader is no stranger to the Eredivisie. His Dutch adventure started in Venlo, where he played more than 32 matches for VVV in 2017 and 2018. Thy managed to score seven times in it. After unsuccessful seasons in Germany and Turkey, he returned to the Eredivisie for a contract with PEC. He played here for one and a half season, before he left for Sparta. In the service of the Rotterdam team, he played 72 games in the past two seasons and the striker scored 19 times. A spicy detail is that PEC was definitively relegated last season in the away game against Sparta (2-0 defeat) on 11 May. Thy did not score in that match at Het Kasteel.

Thy is very pleased with his return to Zwolle. “It feels familiar to return to Zwolle,” the attacker says on the club’s website. “As a football player and as a person I had a good time here and I am now picking up that thread again. With the coach’s playing style, the group of players that are already there and the supporters, we will give everything for a great season and a direct return to the Eredivisie.”

The club management of the Zwolle residents is also happy that the top scorer is returning to the club. “With Lennart we are bringing in an experienced goal-getter”, says a relieved Marcel Boudesteyn, the technical director of PEC. “A player who always and everywhere scores his goals. He knows the club and will help us with his qualities.” PEC was relegated last season as last season from the Eredivisie. During Thy’s earlier spell in Zwolle, the German scored 17 goals in 43 matches. At the time, the Zwolle club finished in fifteenth place in the Eredivisie.
