Feyenoord took the lead against AS Roma on Thursday evening just before half time. Kenneth Perez saw a first half in which both teams set up some nice attacks and singled out Ayase Ueda as a dissonance at Feyenoord. “This bounced off Mats Wieffer… This is such a shame!”, said Perez ESPN.

Ueda, who again replaces Santiago Gimenez in the striker role at Feyenoord, was played in a threatening position with his back to the goal in the first half. Wieffer ran deep from midfield and asked for the ball. The midfielder would have had a huge chance if Ueda had bounced the ball well, but that didn't work.

“This is a very, very bad bounce against Wieffer,” says Perez. “That was a real shame, because it was a nice attack. This is not a difficult ball, is it? Ueda only had to bounce it off Wieffer.”

Marciano Vink reacts mildly to Ueda's wrong pass. “We all know: if you as a striker don't get a lot of balls… I think if he has given two or three balls… Then he puts it well.”

Perez is less forgiving. “This is what you stand for! Whether Wieffer makes it is another matter. But this really needs to be delivered better.”

There is once again criticism of Ueda, who was also unable to impress against Sparta Rotterdam (2-0 win) on Sunday. “When you talk about whether he is a good alternative to Gimenez, these are the moments when he will be judged,” Perez said.

Gimenez started on the bench on Thursday and will come on as a substitute in the second half.
