The personnel problems are piling up at Feyenoord. Bart Nieuwkoop dropped out with an injury fifteen minutes before the end of the Europa League play-offs against AS Roma. The only seventeen-year-old Givairo Read was therefore allowed to make his debut as a substitute.

Feyenoord is plagued by injuries and illness. As a result, the Rotterdam team will have to make do without Justin Bijlow, Lutsharel Geertruida, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Quinten Timber, Gernot Trauner and Thomas van den Belt in the important Europa League match.

Due to the problems, Arne Slot chose Nieuwkoop as right back, where Geertruida normally stands. Nieuwkoop sat down on the grass in pain fifteen minutes before the end and indicated that a substitution was necessary. The right back seemed to grab his hamstring for a moment.

Earlier in the season, Marcos López was brought in as right back by Slot, but the left-footed full-back was visibly uncomfortable in that position. On Thursday, Slot preferred Read. López is on the bench.

Seventeen-year-old Read came over on a free transfer from FC Volendam last summer. He has played there in the youth team since 2017. The born Amsterdammer previously played for amateur club Zeeburgia.
