Thierry Henry is in the picture to work as national coach with the French women’s team, as you know L’Equipe report on Thursday. The former top striker must succeed Corinne Diacre, who has been put on guard by the French federation after a disagreement with a number of star players. Henry is now, four months before the start of the Women’s World Cup, bombed as a ‘dream candidate’.

After Diacre’s departure, the French Football Federation (FFF) is determined to revive the women’s team. According to information from L’Equipe internally they dream of putting Henry in front of the group. The sports newspaper emphasizes that the option is only in its infancy and it is not known whether the 1998 world champion is open to employment with the French federation. his lack of experience as a coach at the highest level could be a downside.

Henry was only on his own feet twice in his still early coaching career, in the 2018/19 season at AS Monaco and subsequently at CF Montréal. In recent years, he mainly gained experience as the right hand of Roberto Martínez in the national team of Belgium. It is unknown if he is open to returning to work as head coach. Other candidates mentioned are Gérard Prêcheur (Paris Saint-Germain), Sonia Bompastor (Olympique Lyon), Sandrine Soubeyrand (Paris FC) and Hervé Renard.

The latter has no experience in women’s football, but is praised for his work with the national team of Saudi Arabia during the last World Cup in Qatar. The French federation has set up a special committee to measure all candidates. Ultimately, a recommendation will be submitted to interim president Philippe Diallo, after which the new national coach will have only one moment to prepare for the World Cup that starts on July 20 in Australia and New Zealand.
